This group exhibition presents works dating from 2000 to 2005 by 26 Dutch photographers. Maison Européene de la Photographie is a major centre for contemporary photographic art situated in the historic heart of Paris.
"Netherlands Now - L'école du Nord" is one of three exhibitions presented under the flag of "L'esprit du Nord/Spirit of the North". The other two are "Magritte and photography" and "Johan van der Keuken, photography and cinema".
The exhibition is sponsored by the Mondrian Foundation and is accompanied by a catalogue.
For over a decade, Dutch photography has undergone some unprecedented transformations. Forms have exploded, new approaches to colour have appeared, and there is a sense of freedom linked directly to the field of art. This exhibition attempts to show how this singular formal diversity and sense of liberation is reflected in photographs dating from 2000 to 2005.
Something akin to a Dutch identity appears; the Rietveld Academy, whose presence can often be seen in the choice of works on show, is its spiritual home. But each photo is an independent entity, producing its own specific emotions. The main genres in the exhibition are portraiture and landscape, and it includes the work of 26 photographers: Woud Berger, Anuschka Blommers/Niels Schumm, Koos Breukel, Elspeth Diederix, Rineke Dijkstra, Leo Divendal, Desiree Dolron, Charlotte Dumas, Marnix Goossens, Risk Hazekamp, Juul Hondius, Paul Kooiker, Annaleen Louwes, Arno Nollen, Erwin Olaf, Johannes Schwartz, Harold Strak, Céline van Balen, Gerald van der Kaap, Carla van de Puttelaar, Frank van der Salm, Lidwien van der Ven, Bertien van Manen, Hellen van Meene, Inez van Lamsweerde/Vinoodh Matadin, Edwin Zwakman.
Depuis plus d'une décennie, la photographie Hollandaise connaît un développement sans précédent : les formes explosent, la couleur impose ses nouvelles approches, les démarches se libèrent et rejoignent directement le champ de l'art. Explosion formelle et plurielle, déploiement libérateur dont l'exposition tente de montrer la singularité à travers des œuvres datées de 2000 à 2005.
Quelque chose comme une identité hollandaise apparaît dont la Rietveld Academy, très présente dans le choix des œuvres exposées, aura été le foyer. Néanmoins, chaque œuvre garde son autonomie, produit sa propre émotion.
