Haarlem (NL)
June 25 - September 11 2005

An exhibition of forty photographic portraits of women from the museums acquisitions in the last four years. Hellen van Meene is featured among works by Koos Breukel, Céline van Balen, Dana Lixenberg, Martine Stig, Sarah Lucas, Tracey Moffat, and Juergen Teller and others.

Review: Han Schoonhoven for www.photoq.nl (Dutch).

From the museum's website:

"Over the centuries, women, young and old, have been viewed, painted and drawn through the eyes of artists in images and more recently, immortalised in photos, on video and on film. The forty photos in the exhibition titled "A view of women" present a varied and intriguing look at portraits of women, purchased for the museum's photo collection in the past four years until very recently. The works are by Koos Breukel, Céline van Balen, Hellen van Meene, Annaleen Louwes, Dana Lixenberg, Martine Stig, Julika Rudelius, Sarah Lucas, Tracey Moffat, Shirana Shahbazi, Juergen Teller and others. These are penetrating, sometimes moving, and sometimes challenging moments from the full range of portrait photography."
